K-On! - Made of awesome, win and all things good. I adore slice of life animes and this has been one of the best I've seen, up there with Azumanga and Lucky Star imo. This has filled in a bit of a gap, because I haven't seen any music based animes before this, and I found it really interesting, but what I found even more so was the relationships between the five girls and how they had fun together. Those of you who haven't seen it (and I'm sure that's very few), go and download it asap, if not sooner and enjoy.

Hidamari Sketch x365 - Another loveable anime which shone through with its warmth and laid backness. I really liked the original series, and I'm glad to see they didn't change the formula round too much. Another on the must see list.

Minami-ke Okaeri - Not as good as the first two shows mentioned, but still rather enjoyable. Another continuation from previous series, and it serves its purpose well.

Eden of the East - One of the best action/adventure animes I've seen. Keeps the fine balance of a good storyline, interesting characters and decent action sequences. Can't wait for the movies to either be subbed or come out on dvd over here.

Haruhi Suzumiya - I've been recently watching the Endless Eight episodes, and I think it's a cool idea that they've done what they did (no spoilers coming from me, but it's pretty obvious what's happened if you've watched at least two out of the four recent episodes). Not many other shows could have pulled the idea off as well as this one, but for the sake of my own sanity, I hope it does not keep on going for too much longer, because I think after five episodes on the same area, the majority of people will want a resolve.

Hatsukoi Limited - Something I would not have originally gone for, but in the end, I quite liked it. I'm not an overly big fan of romance, but this one focused on the comedy just enough to be able to keep my attention.

A lot's happened in that time, I've got in contact with some people from back home and made more friends at university. I'm also about to graduate which is slightly worrying, but it had to happen eventually.

Anime wise, I've watched/am watching:

Minami-ke: Okaeri
Hidamari Sketch x365
Chi's Sweet Home/Chi's New Address
K-On!
07-Ghost
Tears to Tiara
Valkyria Chronicles
Eden of the East
Axis Powers Hetalia
Hatsukoi Limited
Hanasakeru Seishounen
Junjou Romantica 2
La Corda D'Oro ~primo passo~
Saki
Shugo Chara
Skip Beat!

At some point I will do pieces on these, but it does seem like a lot at first glance, but then you realise that you do watch a lot over 200 days.

For technology, I'm loving Spotify. I know I joined in a bit late on this one, but it's still a good idea, especially as a legal method of enjoying the music that you like without having to pay for it (unless you want to). I don't really mind the adverts that much, because they don't happen as often as with commercial radio stations and they're quite short too. The only downside of it is that there should be more Japanese music available on it - the only band I like that's on there is Base Ball Bear.

I'm also now on Twitter (@missflashheart). Again, I came a bit late to the party, but I'm still ahead of most of my friends who don't think that it will catch on. I love it for the purposes of putting your feelings down quickly and simply, and also finding out things from people who are quite interesting.

Well, that's just a quick update on things. I shall be back at some point to start on my anime reviews (hopefully this time they will get done). See you around...

It's so catchy, but makes me think about so much, and I can strangely relate to it, not to being the teenage Steve McQueen (I wasn't exactly an actor or action person in any way), but in a different way.

It's more the fact that it's about what happens when you leave home for a while and then come back and feeling like you don't belong there any more. That's exactly how I felt when I returned back in Birmingham during the university holidays. I spent most of the time during that period either in London working and having social obligations or going to Bloodstock and Edinburgh festivals.

When I was in Birmingham for the short periods that I there for (the longest period I was there for was two weeks), I spent the entire time mostly in my house, being bored out of my mind whilst either working or having to put up with a complete idiot of a chav, or if I want to be nice, my brother.

On the very few times I went out, I was shopping in town or that god-awful chav haven known as Northfield (the latter not willingly of course, but because I had an obligation to). If it wasn't for work, I could probably have gone out with friends who live in the area, but it wouldn't have mattered much anyway, my view of that city would not have changed much anyway.

To me, there's not much interesting to do there anymore. I can't even be bothered to ask people to do stuff, because I've been away for so long that people probably couldn't care less what I do anymore because it doesn't involve them most of the time, and they've most likely got much more interesting stuff to do than see me.

Yes, admittedly I miss people who I know who live there, but that's the problem, the people who are still there haven't moved on and gained enough experience, or they have moved on and are in the same situation as me and are usually too busy. I definitely needed to move away to go to university because I knew it would be an experience and help me to grow up. I would have gone crazy if I'd have stayed where I was.

However, I've made so many friends at university (mostly through my societies) that when I get back, I feel lonely because I know less than half the amount of people there than I do at uni. I become a hikkikomori, and I don't like that. I'm a social person, I need to be with people I like and enjoy being with. I suppose I could have asked people to hang out, but then I'd probably have either had work come up, or my mum slapping a 'last bus' curfew on me (at the age of 20!!!).

I guess what I'm truly trying to say is that I don't want to go back if I'm going to be ignored, lonely and get the feeling like I don't fit in there. Here are some of the lyrics that prove my case in point, and thanks for reading (if you did ).

Can't put my finger on what's changed
To my surprise I found everything the same
In a house that's not quite home
Nothing was missing but something had gone

The engine was running but I couldn't get away
I didn't see any reason to stay
All my pictures have been erased
Cast an extra with nothing to say

I wrote myself into a new storyline
This part was different this time it was mine
Now I'm lost in my own town
It seems like someone moved the streets around

Everything just as I left it
But it wasn't me who left it
The position had been filled

Also, if it gets too confusing, I'll edit it into a proper regular review style.

Anyway, on with the review.

From the beginning of this episode, we see what really happened between Yuuto and Shiina, as opposed to what Haruka thought they had been doing, which we saw at the end of the previous episode. I know it was blatently obvious that nothing bad was going on between them before I even saw this bit, because it's the very cliched thing of "the woman thinks something bad is happening with her man when it's completely innocent" that always occurs in these sorts of shoujo manga and anime.

Also, in true shoujo fashion, Yuuto runs after her to try to make things better, and the ignorance on her part when he's trying to explain what happened is another stereotype. Why in the hell can't she just stay there to hear him out rather than just run away?! I mean, honestly, I know it's supposed to create tension and all, but it makes me want to bash my head into a wall because of her obvious obliviousness.

As you can clearly see, I normally don't like this sort of thing much in my anime, but I suppose because I already know what the series has been like so far in its obviousness, I guess I can let it slide.

I do however like the fact that it seems like she's completely forgotten about what happened the day before when Yuuto comes into the classroom the next day. Normally by this point everyone would have heard about what had been going on and would have given the poor man evil glares and hated him forever for hurting the girl's feelings. This is a refreshing change in my opinion, not usually realistic, granted, but still better than what would normally occur, and besides, who wants to have their anime overly realistic anyway?

Other than the storyline, at this point, I am loving the cosplay costumes, especially Shiina's one. If I was a bit skinnier and more confident then I'd really want to wear that sort of thing if I went to a convention, just for fun, I wouldn't be interested in entering any competitions or anything like that.

With the competition aspect in the anime on the other hand, the way things are going, I think I have an idea exactly which two of the eight contestants will be left to fight it out, in fact, I think we all know to be honest.

Also, is it just me, or do Haruka's fangirls annoy everyone else too? I swear, I am so glad there was never anything like that at my school, otherwise I would probably get angry at the system of that sort of thing, not that I would have treated these people like my enemy, you understand, but no one needs all that attention (You can really tell I was never one of the uber-popular people, can't you? At least I wasn't an outcast though, so meh, whatever, can't complain).

The names for the food and drink from the cafe seem like quite a nice idea. In fact, it gives me inspiration for what I would do if I ever got the chance to have a go at another one of my dream jobs - a metal cafe. Yes, I know, it's taken straight from Questionable Content, with their Coffee of Doom shop, but it's something that I haven't seen in the UK and the gap in the market needs to be filled (at least in my honest opinion anyway ).

Again, Haruka is ignoring Yuuto - damn it, she could have just five minutes to spare to let the guy speak his mind, but no, because it has to be done this way, she ignores him because she's too busy. Why not just let someone cover for her for once, she doesn't need to be working 24/7, admittedly she may be popular and most of the people there would want her serving them, but they'd live without it, wouldn't they? Oh wait, she's going on her break, this is the perfect chance for Yuuto - wait a minute, he didn't say what he should have done, gah! Come on man, you've been waiting for this for ages now, just say what you've wanted to say to her. We all know you want to go out with her (I think that was obvious from the title of the episode) so just tell her already, don't leave the audience hanging.

Now Mika and the maids have shown up, just when Haruka has gone. Now they can have a bit of a chat with Yuuto about things without being worried for Haruka. I believe Hazuki-san already knows what happened between Haruka and Yuuto the day before, because I'm guessing she's the only one Haruka told about everything. That's pretty much common knowledge thanks to the way she acted on the phone the night before and the way she's being towards Yuuto now.

Mika and Nanami are so insistent and persistent, aren't they? They shouldn't need to know about what happened because it's none of their business really, and if they found out they'd be very unhappy with Yuuto, because they'd instantly believe Haruka was right, even though she didn't know what happened. Good, they didn't find out, but even so, Mika's still suspicious, typical of her though. Now Hazuki-san's being suspicious, with her not going with the others. I'm thinking she's planning on meeting someone else, but we'll have to wait and see on that front.

The contest (aka the blatent fanservice) has just started. Of course, every series of this caliber has to have a bit of fanservice to please the guys, otherwise they wouldn't watch it, because it would be too feminine for them otherwise. Well, that was a short contest, I'd say not so much a contest as a group of girls being put on stage to be eyed up by their fellow classmates, and Haruka won again this year it seems. That seems like the clear choice, especially seeing as stereotypicalness is the main dish of the day.

Oh dear, she's seen Yuuto, probably the last person she wanted to see at that moment, and now the announcer thinks she's crying because she won. The way she looks on that stage doesn't look like she's very happy, so why think it's because she won, damn you announcer for being emotionally blind.

Here now, we have the interception, and now I can finally assume that Yuuto will come out and say what he's wanted to say all along, either that, or he is truly an idiot. Oh well, he tried, now it's Haruka who my anger is turned towards (again), it's another case of absentmindedness on her part, it's easier on everyone if you just let him tell you rather than being off in your own little world and just going on what you think is correct.

I do think it was nice of Shiina to assume that Yuuto didn't want to do the folk dance with her, at least she has some sort of knowledge of emotions (which in this episode most other people are clearly lacking in) and has some idea of what he wants. As much as it's also visible that she fancies him too, I think in her heart she knows that he wants Haruka.

Now here's Hazuki-san. Always the protector of Haruka and the only other person who knows what went on that day between Yuuto and Shiina. At least because of that she knows and believes Yuuto, unlike what most people would have done. Finally, as well, she gives him advice for how to deal with Haruka. It's been needed for a while now, so it's great to finally get it. Ooh, and we get some backstory too, this is probably the best segment so far of this episode to be honest. So she doesn't want what happened to her to happen to them, well duh. Nobody wants what bad things happened in a previous relationship to happen to other people, except maybe their worst enemies.

At the folk dance, it's nice that everyone else has found someone to be with and seem to be enjoying themselves. That's what it should be like. Let's hope Yuuto and Haruka end up being like that too. Now we have the typical apology scene of "It's my fault", "No it's not, it's my fault too" standards. And for Haruka, when your heart feels like that, it's a combination of jealousy and love for someone. Come on, get it into your head and someone, just ask the other out, please!

Finally, we have the confession of sorts. See, it wasn't that hard now, was it? We now have them as a couple, and they get the dance they wanted, even if it's not with everyone, but for them to do it in private probably makes it even more romantic, and no one should be able to see if they mess up (which they inevitably do), expect for the maids and Mika, but it wouldn't be the same without them spying on our couple.
Lol, Eric's a teddy bear and a cute one at that. Now that's the only thing I didn't predict during the course of the episode, and I think it's time to close up the review.

On the whole, I didn't enjoy this episode as much as I have done with previous ones. Then again, these sorts of episodes get on my goat a bit because they happen in almost every anime where there's some sort of romance. Yes, I know that these things happen during a relationship or the courting process, but they're usually never as dramatic as this. It also seemed like this episode has been padded out with the drama, when they could have cut that in half and maybe spent the other half focusing on the contest, that would have probably made it better. The good parts were the backstory, the cute cosplay costumes and the ending.

I'd personally mark this episode a five out of ten - could do better.

 Comments
</default:description>

I hope you don't mind my writing style for this, but I'm writing as I'm watching the epsiode, so the review may end up a bit of a mix between the past and present tenses, and I'll most likely ramble a lot, but don't mind that, skip it if you don't like it.

The thing for this time is Warhammer and Warhammer 40K. I went to the Warhammer Games Day earlier today (aka, the big UK Warhammer convention of the year), and can I just say that it was awesome! I got to play a game of 40K (as Eldar no less, my personal favourite army) against my bf who was playing as Tyranids. I lost, but it was still fun to do.

I also saw some footage from Dawn Of War II (and got a free t-shirt besides ), and I love it already (the game that is, not the t-shirt, although that's still nice too).
Graphically it is brilliant, the cutscenes look staggeringly beautiful and the in-game footage looks great too, much improved from the original Dawn of War. The gameplay looks like it's going to be better too. It seems a bit more tactical rather than "the more stuff we bring out, the more likely we are to win." The use of cover is a good idea and is much needed to link it with the tabletop game, and I like the idea that you can specifically upgrade all your squads with different items so that each team is unique. All I can say on that front is bring on Spring 2009!

Along with that, I managed to try out a fifteen minute preview of Warhammer Online, and it just captured me. Admittedly it does remind me of Warcraft a lot (at least from the short time I spent on it), but there's nothing wrong with wanting a bit of a change now and again. The character creation is better than other MMOs that I've seen, and again, it's graphically superior, so much so that I'll have to use my bf's laptop rather than my crappy one, but it is still rather similar to most MMOs in that it's the idea of doing quests and exploring.
I think this one is slightly more defined towards the fans of Warhammer rather than the general MMO populus (who'll stick with Warcraft), but it is possible for non-fans to pick up and play. I say this because my bf played it too, and he normally hates MMOs, but he loved this one, and he's willing to go halves with me on it when it comes out this Friday, which is nice of him.

Anyway, I definitely know I'm going to this again next year, no matter what, and I'm also sorry for hi-jacking my own blog for geekery, but hey, it's my blog so I can do what I want (even if I'm probably the only one who reads it) .

I am Miss Flashheart, a university student who has a penchant for all things of a geeky nature. I study media and music technology, and I've decided to make a blog to help me get some practice for the job which I wish to do when I finally leave university - journalism.

Not just any journalism though, god no, I don't want to be a hack for something like the Daily Mail (a stupid rag that has no sense of reality and only gets readers by sensationalising everything, even when it is totally bogus). I'd personally love to work for a magazine, specifically music or video games, or if there is a UK based anime and manga magazine out there (with those subjects as their main focus, not just as a side feature) then that would be brilliant to work for too.

But enough about me and what I want to do for my future. This is an anime blog, so I might as well get started on the subject matter at hand. I've probably watched a lot of anime in my time, however, my addiction only started about a year and a half ago, when my friends from the RPG society at university got me interested in anime. Since then I've been unable to stop watching the stuff, and have in my time amassed over two weeks of my life to watching anime, which isn't bad really.

My personal favourite anime of all time is Azumanga Daioh, which was the first anime that I ever saw in full. I mean, I'd seen things like Tenchi Muyo and Cowboy Bebop round at a friend's house before, but I never decided to follow it up. However, Azumanga just captured me in a way that those two shows never did.
As it's a slice-of-life anime, it was just like looking into their lives and seeing something rather wonderful in there. It's also probably why I like shows like Lucky Star, Minami-ke and Hidamari Sketch too, because they're in the same style, but nothing has really compared to Azumanga in my eyes.

I also like a bit of romance in my life (not much, but it's there) so I liked watching shows like Ouran High School Host Club, Fruits Basket and Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (aka The Wallflower). The reverse harem genre is one of my personal favourites that is in anime, however, I do also like regular harem animes like Shuffle!, Sekirei and Negima.

Another genre that I love is the mystery genre. Things like Detective Conan and Kindaichi are my favourites from this genre, but I like other ones like Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro and Yakushiji Ryoko No Kaiki Jikenbo. I love the idea of trying to find out who done it before it gets revealed, it gives me such a thrill ^_^.

Finally, a personal thing that I like to watch is yaoi/shounen-ai. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those rabid fangirls that likes to go to conventions with a yaoi paddle (I haven't even been to a convention, but I'd love to go, at least once) and slashes every single man that I see in an anime with another one. I just like reading the manga and watching the anime that comes out, and leaving it at that.
From this genre, I've liked shows like Junjou Romantica (I can't wait for the second half of that to come out), Gakuen Heaven, Boku No Sexual Harrassment (I love what they did in AMV Hell 0 with that anime, by the way, classic stuff) and Antique Bakery. I'd love to see more of this genre, and I probably will in years to come.

Obviously, I am watching anime at this time as well, and sooner or later, I will start my criticism of the animes that I have recently finished or possibly am in the middle of. But for now, I might as well tell you all what animes I am watching so that you can get an idea of what shows will be coming up as topics of conversation in the next few weeks:

Hidamari Sketch x 365
Antique Bakery
Sekirei
Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro
Yakushiji Ryoko No Kaiki Jikenbo
Detective Conan
Monochrome Factor
and Shugo Chara.

Thank you for reading this if you have, and I hope to see you soon with more anime talk. Also, please give me some comments about this blog, preferably some constructive criticism as to how this blog should be formatted. Do you like it the way it is now or would you prefer it to be changed in some way? All viewpoints are welcome (just don't be too rude about it ) and will be considered.

Yours,

Yours,
