I've decided that along with the anime critiquing, which is the main idea of the blog (obviously), I think I might talk about some other things of general geekery that have interested me too.

The thing for this time is Warhammer and Warhammer 40K. I went to the Warhammer Games Day earlier today (aka, the big UK Warhammer convention of the year), and can I just say that it was awesome! I got to play a game of 40K (as Eldar no less, my personal favourite army) against my bf who was playing as Tyranids. I lost, but it was still fun to do.

I also saw some footage from Dawn Of War II (and got a free t-shirt besides ;) ), and I love it already (the game that is, not the t-shirt, although that's still nice too).
Graphically it is brilliant, the cutscenes look staggeringly beautiful and the in-game footage looks great too, much improved from the original Dawn of War. The gameplay looks like it's going to be better too. It seems a bit more tactical rather than "the more stuff we bring out, the more likely we are to win." The use of cover is a good idea and is much needed to link it with the tabletop game, and I like the idea that you can specifically upgrade all your squads with different items so that each team is unique. All I can say on that front is bring on Spring 2009!

Along with that, I managed to try out a fifteen minute preview of Warhammer Online, and it just captured me. Admittedly it does remind me of Warcraft a lot (at least from the short time I spent on it), but there's nothing wrong with wanting a bit of a change now and again. The character creation is better than other MMOs that I've seen, and again, it's graphically superior, so much so that I'll have to use my bf's laptop rather than my crappy one, but it is still rather similar to most MMOs in that it's the idea of doing quests and exploring.
I think this one is slightly more defined towards the fans of Warhammer rather than the general MMO populus (who'll stick with Warcraft), but it is possible for non-fans to pick up and play. I say this because my bf played it too, and he normally hates MMOs, but he loved this one, and he's willing to go halves with me on it when it comes out this Friday, which is nice of him.

Anyway, I definitely know I'm going to this again next year, no matter what, and I'm also sorry for hi-jacking my own blog for geekery, but hey, it's my blog so I can do what I want (even if I'm probably the only one who reads it) :p .
